As part of our mission to support community-led change and solidarity, Greenwich Giving has been delighted to partner with Greenwich Peninsula to help deliver their Social Clubs Fund.
Peninsula residents can apply for up to £500 to run a social club or activity, that brings together community members in new ways. Alongside funding, Greenwich Giving provides practical advice on how to set up their project and helps promote their club to more residents.
Here are just a few of the clubs that we've funded this year who are creating new neighbourhood connections:
Launched in April of 2025, the Greenwich Peninsula Board Game Club (GPBGC) has been successfully running sessions every other Friday at the Firepit.
After applying to the Social Clubs Fund by filling in a "simple form, quite straightforward" (according to co-founder Patrizia!), the GPBGC was awarded funding in May.
With this money, the GPBGC has been able to elevate their game (pun intended!):
The GPBGC was able to scale up their operations through the Social Clubs Fund – with roughly 20 to 30 participants attending every session.
They are a self-described "vibrant community of friendly nerds", so if that sounds like your vibe, why not join their WhatsApp Group here?
Motivated to make the most out of the Greenwich Peninsula’s sports courts, Kevin applied to the Social Clubs Fund to make sport available to all, regardless of their financial background. As he says, the facilities are "taking up our land on the Peninsula, and if it's going to be in our faces like this, I figured we have a right to use it". The Social Clubs Fund is his way of achieving this dream.
As with the funding that he got in a "pretty easy" application, he can now provide the sports equipment and cover the fees of booking courts, making the sports facilities accessible to all residents, not just those able to afford them.
After initially struggling to find people, Kevin opened up his Basketball club and now runs a Sports Club on the Greenwich Peninsula. With our help, he now has over 140 members in his WhatsApp group that organises regular sport meet ups, including basketball and padel sessions. If that sounds like something you want to be a part of, why not join the club here?
After becoming a mother herself, Asmar embarked on the challenging journey of parenthood – to help her find her feet again, she learnt all about the brain, reading up on the latest neuroscience of how we function, adapt and develop.
Motherhood is really challenging. It was challenging for me as well, and the community that I'm leading now - Greenwich community - was really helpful, they really supported me. (...) I realized why can't I do something for mums that are like me?Asmar, Founder of the Learning and development for Mums Hub
She now wants to share her learnings with other mothers, who may or may not be struggling to adapt. The learning mums club was born as a space for parents to come together for an hour, learn about the neuroscience of babies (and adults!), gain confidence in their parenting skills, share tips and tricks, and recharge their batteries from the daily challenges of parenthood.
To achieve this vision, Asmar received funding from the Social Clubs Fund, allowing her to offer her knowledge for free. The money covers the room fees at the Aperture and the costs of a projector, while also providing coverage for marketing materials and snacks for attendees.
Combined by a desire to become the best possible parenting versions of themselves, participants of the first session noted how nice it is to get to know other mums without the children present, and how helpful it is to share parenting tips in a judgement-free zone.
While the series of free workshops has started, you can still join until the end of November by emailing helloskillwell@gmail.com.
In September, Chris organised an event for LGBTQ+ locals on the Peninsula, inviting them along to a day of connection and community. Applying to the Social Clubs Fund helped him provide refreshment and entertainment to the over 30 attendees.
Attendees had genuine fun and loved interacting with each other and learning about and getting to know their neighbours to create a fantastic real community which is perhaps the best effect these events have on our Peninsula!Chris, successful Social Clubs Fund applicant
As he noted, "creating a safe and tolerant space for them to be able to be themselves and meet fellow LGBT residents" is important for the community, and new residents.
Because of the success of this year, Chris is looking to host another large event next year – with the help of the Social Clubs Fund!
If you would like to get to know LGBTQ+ residents on the Peninsula, you can join in on the fun here.
Whether you want to run a one-off event, a social club, or a workshop series, you can apply to the Social Clubs Fund until February 2026. It’s a straightforward process with nine simple questions - with a budget template provided. You can find all you need to know here.
